Mentorship is

TOOLKIT supports mentorship as a core part of building the communication profession. Through structured and informal mentorship, we invest in professionals who are shaping communication across Africa and beyond.
WHY IT MATTERS

Mentorship is not just about guidance. It is about opening access, building confidence, and shaping future leaders who can do for others what was done for them. That investment does not need to be formal or time-consuming. It needs to be intentional.

Strong mentorship creates confident communicators, stronger institutions, and more ethical and effective communication practices.

TRACK RECORD

Sabra Saleh has mentored professionals across global fellowship programmes over the last four years. Her mentees have gone on to influence policy, secure funding, publish thought leadership, and lead communication initiatives across sectors.

They come from across the African continent, working in government, local and international non-profit organisations, and the private sector. They are, in every sense, the next generation of the profession.

WHAT MENTEES ARE SAYING
  • Margaret Luvuze

Project Officer, Health, Sanitation & Hygiene, World Vision, Kenya
Sabra was my anchor through every curveball. She broke down complex objectives into manageable phases and reviewed my advocacy plan, proactively addressing bottlenecks. Beyond the technical advice, she created an environment where I felt empowered to own the solution and provided the necessary trust and encouragement for me to push forward, transforming what could have been a stressful period into a significant growth opportunity for me.
  • Omondi Eric

    CEO, Esonga Menstrual Care, Uganda
Working with Sabra was the most grounding part of my fellowship. She created a safe space for honest reflection and helped me clarify the deeper purpose behind my work. Her steady, thoughtful approach didn't impose answers; she expertly guided me to find them myself. This has made a significant difference in how I communicate, make decisions, and show up for my team.
  • Gloria Agyare

    Fellow, Impact West Africa, Ghana
In my journey as a young leader, Sabra's guidance, patience, and genuine care have been pivotal. Under her expert leadership, I authored and published my first Op-Ed. Her firm yet nurturing approach helped me develop a comprehensive advocacy plan and build key stakeholder relationships. Truly exceptional.
  • Matebele Mulekwa

Assistant Director of Public Health, Nakonde Town Council, Zambia
Sabra's mentorship transformed our ambitious goal into a strategic campaign. Her guidance helped me navigate complex stakeholder landscapes, from securing commitments from local councillors to launching a media partnership with Radio Maria. We moved from community meetings to securing a K5.5 million budget allocation from the local government. She turns advocacy into measurable progress.
  • Wayambekange Hamufenhu

Senior Planning Officer, Dept. of Water Affairs and Sanitation, Namibia
Sabra's mentorship significantly boosted my confidence in public speaking and storytelling. She broke down complex communication strategies into practical tools, helping me craft compelling narratives for meaningful change. She created a safe environment to overcome self-doubt and embrace my voice as a changemaker. Her impact was deeply transformative.
  • Etienne Bilgo

    Researcher, IRSS, Burkina Faso
Sincere gratitude is extended to Sabra Saleh from the IMPACT West Africa Fellowship Program for her mentorship, critical reading, and comments during the manuscript's development." Acknowledged in: The Unseen Battle: Interpreting the 2023 World Malaria Report from Burkina Faso's Frontlines” (published in Malaria Journal, June 2024)
